It is Chris Lynn who everyone will be talking about, however, after he took an acrobatic catch to send back de Villiers and turn the game in the final over.

De Villiers was looking to clear the long boundary at midwicket - the pitch was at the edge of the square - and though he connected well, there wasn't enough to clear the rope. He might still have survived, as Lynn had slipped and fallen before the ball got to him. 

That didn't deter Lynn, who leapt up and plucked that powerful hit bending his back like a high-jumper, and flopped to the ground, somehow managing it all without touching the rope which was a yard behind.

Given the sheer athleticism involved, the stage of the game, and the player who was dismissed by it, it's hard to see how Lynn's catch will be topped this season. "I slipped and I thought if I stood up and dropped the catch, it would look very silly, so just stayed down," was Lynn's straight-faced explanation when asked about his game-changing grab.

After de Villiers' exit Royal Challengers needed six off two, not entirely out of reach, especially for a hitter like Morkel. But the catch left Royal Challengers stunned, and even though the final delivery was a hittable full toss, Morkel couldn't put it away, and Knight Riders' jailbreak was complete.

The high drama at the end masked a diffident performance from Knight Riders for much of the game. The only other passage in the match when they looked in control was when Lynn was in the middle, swatting sixes off the returning Muttiah Muralitharan. Lynn, bought as an afterthought in the IPL auctions showed some of the big-hitting that has earned him loyal fans in the Big Bash League.

Lynn put on 80 for the third wicket with Jacques Kallis, after Gautam Gambhir fell for his third successive duck and the in-form Manish Pandey faltered. Lynn's dismissal in the 12th over drained the momentum from Knight Riders' innings and they finished on what seemed an inadequate score. Varun Aaron showed he had control as well as pace, and legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned in his third impressive performance in a row to keep the Knight Riders in check.

Royal Challengers' dominance increased after their openers, Parthiv Patel and Yogesh Takawale, provided a strong start, and Virat Kohli was at his usual best to guide the chase along. Narine was watchfully played out till Kohli was bamboozled off the penultimate ball of his spell to give Knight Riders a faint chance. Yuvraj couldn't force the pace towards the end giving Knight Riders more of a grip on the game, before Vinay and Lynn yanked it out of Royal Challengers' hands.

Wow! It's again a Yuvi show all the way. Any youngster watching, this is how you make your life miserable and miserable for the team too. The match was lost because of Yuvi's yet another pathetic show. Poor RCB, they wasted a fortune on this "Goner"!!! The most expensive players is also the worst player in this tournament. It is like he has become a huge burden on RCB.

Gambhir and Shewag were doth playing well for India, when they both eyed thr Indian captaincy. When Dhoni had a short period of slump, they doth tried to aggravate the situation by purposely playig sadlt according to a plan. And, see, both are out of the team and will never make a come gack.

Royal Challengers n Kolkata Knight Riders Two teams


Big Picture — Two teams jolted by recent defeats will be eager to get back the winning momentum. Royal Challengers Bangalore have just a day to shake off a stunning defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders, for it was a game they weren't meant to lose. Any team needing 25 off 18 balls with seven wickets in hand would back itself to seal it, but a combination of nerves, intelligent death bowling from Vinay Kumar, and a blinder of an outfield catch from Chris Lynn turned the match on its head.

It was Royal Challengers' first defeat in three games, but more importantly, it was the wake-up call they needed to ward off complacency. Chris Gayle's likely return will perk them up, but the opening position is not their worry, for they have managed well without him. Yuvraj Singh has scores of 52*, 0 and 31 but he won't be very satisfied with his strike-rate. Virat Kohli cannot be expected to win them every game, which means the others around him have to be more consistent.

Still, the Royal Challengers may not be as concerned about form as the Rajasthan Royals will be. The team succumbed to Glenn Maxwell defending 191 and against Chennai Super Kings, they failed to chase 141. They could not pin down Super Kings at 74 for 5, and despite restricting them to a middling total, the batsmen never really asserted themselves.

It begs the question of whether Shane Watson should move up the order, with Abhishek Nayar struggling. If Watson can take control at the top, it relieves the pressure on the middle order. 

Varun Aaron had to endure negative press coming into this IPL, after he leaked 74 off only 7.5 overs in an ODI against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. Fortunately, he has managed to turn that around with economical spells. He took 1 for 9 off three overs against Delhi Daredevils and his best performance was 3 for 16 against Knight Riders. That he has managed to be penetrative without compromising on his pace is a bonus for Royal Challengers and himself.

Expertise And Exploration Can Serve You Well in Business And in Life - Kat Cole

In a recent interview and influencer post with LinkedIn, several topics of discussion centered around resilience and innovation. Questions such as, how is Cinnabon able to succeed in unusual markets? Why can’t I have a fat free Cinnabon treat and when will you have gluten free? What types of product innovations have been successful? And how/ why has Cinnabon expanded into so many products and channels? And on the personal note, questions come surrounding my transition from working at Hooters as a teenager, to becoming a restaurant and franchise executive, to running Cinnabon.

The answers to these questions and others like them surround around having a focus on expertise and exploration. These two attributes, when present in an individual, a team or a company culture, drive personal, professional and brand resilience and innovation.

Let’s take the Healthy/Gluten Free Topic for example. If you look through the Linked In post discussions or check out my twitter feed – you’ll see all kinds of contradictory preferences. Some people want fat free, some want vegan; others say, “hey, you’re Cinnabon – I don’t come to you for low cal – I come to you for something so delicious, that the indulgence is worth it”. Here’s what you can take from that, you can’t please everyone. (And remember, this is as true for each of us as people as it is for a company or brand).

In fact, the attempt to be all things to all people can be pretty destructive over time. You have to know who you are, be true to that core (expertise), but understand how to evolve in order to remain differentiated and relevant (exploration). For Cinnabon, that means staying ooey gooey, totally delicious, and incredibly indulgent (expertise). But it also means creating smaller and broader variety of portion sizes and treats and indulgences and listening to our fans who say they want more portable products (exploration). And yes, it could even mean a delicious gluten free version someday.

Even though we have broadened variety and created smaller, more portable versions of our product so we have smaller sweet treats, we have also made a choice not to make our core cinnamon rolls fat free, because of the tradeoff in real ingredients and yumminess that would be required.

While we have a few indulgent but fat free items in our bakeries such as our delicious Orange Mango frozen Lemonade Chillatta, we have many fat free options in retail like our Cinnabon Green Mountain Coffee, our Cinnabon Vodka and Cinnabon Airwick scents for your home – yummy! Of course, Kellogg’s Cinnabon Cereal or Cinnabon Cream of Wheat are a little healthier versions of our famous flavors, too. If we didn’t have these other channels and partners, we would not be able to provide the variety necessary to connect with as many people as we do. It’s this openness to risk and change and the discipline to work with great partners allows us the variety and accessibility to fans with all kinds of preferences can enjoy some version of our ingredients or products. When entrepreneurs or leaders ask for advice or mentorship, I often share this perspective to encourage them to branch out.

As an example of our exploration mindset, we tried “lite” MiniBon Cinnamon rolls once, reduced fat and reduced calorie. You know what happened? People bought it, like 2 people – no, maybe 4 (exaggerating only slightly). Our fans end up deciding if they want to control calories in their indulgence, they’ll just get one of our smaller options and not trade off one bit of deliciousness for a lower calorie version – it wasn’t worth saving the 100 or 200 calories (to stay with the bigger portion size when the smaller one is just as yummy) for something that is an occasional treat any way.

It’s not that we don’t want to make our awesome famous products many different ways (in fact we do), it’s that in a small business that is a fresh bakery, you have to actually sell enough of what you make for it to be worth it, otherwise, it hurts the business and takes the focus off the core.

At some point, each leader, brand and company learns they can’t chase every option that people request. There are a limited amount of resources in any given business and situation. We have to leverage our expertise and stay true to that, while still exploring and being open to the additional opportunities we have to be relevant to an evolving customer base. We can’t be afraid to try new things or be too stubborn to provide variety and options our guests may love or that could create new fans.

This is just one example, and I could share countless more where answers to questions around how we make decisions, grow and evolve to build a global multi-channel brand center around a combination of expertise and exploration, but the real secret behind embracing expertise and exploration at Cinnabon is our team.

One of our executives often says we are a team of entrepreneurs functioning in a slightly corporate environment. That is so right on. We have leaders and contributors in our brand, our employees and franchisees and the awesome people at our parent company (FOCUS Brands) who make up that culture. I never forget how lucky I am to work with people who are disciplined enough to strengthen our expertise, but creative, vulnerable and flexible enough to be true explorers and take risks. We live by our mantra “Life Needs Frosting” and don’t take ourselves too seriously, staying open to new opportunities that are as fun for the brand as they may be good for the business. These are the kind of people we choose to work with, hire and promote and that I learn the most from.

Personally, I’ve also found that being a student of your functionality, industry and work not only helps hone your expertise, but exposes you to new thinking, so you can be as solid of a team player or leader as possible. Don’t get complacent if you’ve had success or have been in a role or company for a while. Use the hot-shot rule, and constantly imagine what a new person taking over your job today might do, and challenge yourself to see your opportunities with fresh eyes and fire in the belly just as that new person would.

In addition, by channeling your inner explorer, branching out, trying new things and helping others do the same, you find new ways to add value and new opportunities to take. If I had not been focused on being the best I could be (expertise), open to working every job possible as an hourly employee (server, bartender, cook, hostess) and doing the same as a I moved up in professional management roles (explorer), I know I would not have had the privilege to learn from many mistakes and awesome people and therefore would not be where I am today. Being an expert and being an explorer at the same time (as an individual, as a team, or as a company) may seem contradictory, but it’s not. It’s complementary and necessary in today’s fast paced, easily disrupted environment.

Tim Cook Answer For Why iPad Sales Appear To Be Stalling


Apple's iPad sales for last quarter fell far below expectations. It sold 16.35 million of them, but analysts were expecting about 19 million.

On the surface, 16 million sounds like a lot of iPads, but growth in Apple's iPad business has flatlined. In fact, growth was negative for last quarter.

So, what the heck happened?

On a call with analysts this afternoon, Apple CEO Tim Cook did his best to explain.

For last quarter in particular, he said the company reduced its iPad channel inventory compared to the same quarter last year, so sales were actually in line with the high end of Apple's internal expectations.

Speaking on the iPad business as a whole, Cook made some really interesting points to remain bullish. First, he said the iPad is Apple's fastest-growing product in the company's history. Apple has sold 210 million of them so far, which is almost twice as many iPhones Apple sold in the same period of time.

Cook also made a strong case for the iPad in the enterprise market. He cited one study that said 91% of tablets activated in the enterprise are iPads. Meanwhile, nearly all Fortune 500 companies use iPads. He also said it was a smart move of Microsoft to finally release Office on the iPad, which should help with enterprise adoption since many businesses rely so heavily on the software. In fact, Cook said Microsoft should've released Office for iPad earlier than it did.

In education, Cook said the iPad has a 95% market share, but the challenge now is to get more schools to buy them and gain penetration.

Finally, Cook still believes tablet computing is the future.

"I believe the tablet market will surpass the PC market," he said on the call.

Featuring an ensemble cast of Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, R. Sarath Kumar, Naseer, Shobana and Aadi Pinisetty in lead roles, the film has music by double Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman. It is jointly produced by Media One Global Entertainment and Eros International.

Maria Sharapova celebrates 27th birthday at German spring festival


Washington: Maria Sharapova celebrated her 27th birthday by visiting the annual Stuttgarter Fruehlingsfest, a spring festival and biergarten in Stuttgart, on Saturday.

The tennis pro donned a silver traditional German dress that featured white and pink accents, and completed her look with heels and a heart-shaped purse with the message “You are my great luck” in German, E! Online reported.


Sharapova, who was in town for the Porsche Grand Prix, was all smiles while touring the biergarten and riding festival rides like the Ferris wheel.

In addition to celebrating her birthday at the festival, Sharapova also launched a new line of her Sugarpova candy called “Speedy.” The new candies are yogurt gummies in the shape of the Porsche 911 car.

My path and the change that put me there (on the path to building a law firm) was not as dramatic as many I have heard in my 26 years of practice as a divorce lawyer, where yes, I think I have almost heard it all. What drove me ultimately to start my own law firm at age 29 was a simple, but frustrating, difference of opinion.

My opinion was that I contributed to the team, and the team (my employer) would reciprocate. Well, did it happen? As kids say these days (and what Tonto said often), “not so much”. The situation: I had generated a case that provided good revenue for the firm. But when a court reporter bill went unpaid (after the client had paid the firm thousands), part of the court reporter’s bill was deducted from my salary by my employer (only a few hundred dollars, but it was over 10% of my paycheck at the time). That was the eye-opener for me.

For others it is more drastic—and it may be better, for instance, to lose a job and be forced to start over on a better, more productive path. Once that proverbial “last straw” was dished out, it set me on a new course. I then met with anyone I could who would give me advice about opening and operating a law firm. It was such a change in my life. I was looking forward; scared, but looking forward. 

I would be dependent on me. And I slowly gained confidence. But, as an insecure young lawyer (another fact that probably shaped my career path), I needed to discuss my work, my cases, my clients and their problems with others. This made me almost immediately begin hiring staff. 

A paralegal and an associate were my first hires, and from then on, I realized that adding good people, smart people, to a team was invaluable. And hopefully, and most importantly, I hope and believe that I do “give back” to those that give to the team. I also try to give back by being active in my field and speaking to younger lawyers and on social media, obviously on LinkedIn and elsewhere.

Giving back. It is the only way to work and it is the only way to live.

I like to think that I have been in charge of my own life, that I am in the driving seat rather than in the back seat along for a scenic ride – observing but not participating. But I confess that if it were not for other people’s actions, I would not be doing what I’m doing. I wrote about this particular curveball some months ago in "Can You Fire Your Boss?"

A career can be a series of Sliding Door moments: one door closes, another one opens, and often we are not quite sure which door is next. One thing is for sure there have been plenty of curveballs flung at me. I think my workday is going to go in one direction – and then before I know it I am off in another direction. Ultimately these sliding doors did lead to me start my own business.

In the early 1990s I worked in the aviation industry during the deregulation of the industry in Australia. I was proud and excited to get this job for such a prestigious iconic Australian brand, I called all my friends – there was no Facebook in those days – sharing the great news. I was jump-for-joy happy. It took me four hours to work out what to wear for my first day, wanting to make a good impression.

Yet within six months I lied about where I worked, and before the year was out I knew that this was not a long-term career company for me. It was the curveballs that made me realize this.

My role was as marketing manager for the loyalty club program and I was then asked to join the launch team on the first points-based frequency program to ever exist in Australia. It was a big deal back then; we thought it might even make front-page news. I was putting every ounce of effort I had into doing great work, even though I had to do two jobs at the same time. My workload had more than doubled, my salary stayed the same.

Month after month I toiled endless hours to get the program launched. My immediate colleagues saw my contribution. But my superiors had no idea of the work involved in getting the launch right whilst keeping the marketing effort for my original role in full flight.

After many months waiting to be acknowledged and see my salary reviewed, I finally got up the courage to go upstairs to the general manager's office:

“I’m enjoying the work, but my role has doubled. I have now been managing the two roles for more than six months. In what time frame would a salary review be undertaken?” I asked.

“Who do you think you are to come into my office and ask for a pay rise?” he retorted. “How do I know what value you add to this business?”

I left his office trying to hold back the tears, feeling not only diminished, but also angry and hurt. I was indignant – How could he not know my contribution?

Was it management’s job to notice what I did? Was it my peers? Or was it mine to speak up and share what I achieved? In hindsight of course it is a mixture of all these things. One thing I knew is I never would allow this to happen again.

Finally, my direct manager negotiated a salary review of my role. The outcome was a $5 per week pay rise. This was as insulting as the lack of recognition for my work. The general manager received my resignation the next day. Door closed!

Within weeks I joined Apple as a marketing manager. Door opened. And the rest, as they say, is history.

What I do know is this curveball galvanized what I believe about work places:


  • I believe that everyone deserves to have a great day at work.
  • I believe that if people know what they are there to do, if someone notices and they go home feeling like a winner, then they are likely to play full out.
  • I believe that appreciation is the simplest and most effective way of valuing the contribution made by an individual.
  • I believe that what gets noticed gets repeated.
And that is why I preach what I practice and work to support other businesses on their 'best employer' journeys. It is all about RED (Recognize Every Day) and without the curveball of having a mean, nasty, small-minded general manager as a boss 25 years ago, perhaps I would not have created such a successful business.

As March Madness plays out on basketball courts across the country, a class action lawsuit is taking the NCAA to a another kind of court. A Federal one.

CBS and Turner Broadcasting understand the power of March Madness, so much so that they paid nearly $11 billion for the long-term rights to broadcast the tournament. And hey, why not? The NCAA Men's basketball tournament generates more advertising revenue than the post season broadcasts of any of the major professional sports leagues -- even the NFL.

College basketball is an industry. A major industry. That is, unless you're a player...or should I say, "student-athlete". In that case, basketball is an amateur sport.

But how is this fair to the players?

As talented as many of these athletes are, less than 1% will play in the NBA. And yet, they are effectively already professional, in that they're producing a quality of play spectators want to see and advertisers will pay up for.

So, imagine if college athletes were paid for their work. A study conducted by NCPA - Drexel Sports management department did exactly that - concluding that the average basketball player was worth approximately $290,000 a year with some of the top guys worth well over $1 million, excluding potential endorsement deals, which the NCAA bans.

Seems like a lot of money? Not compared to the coaches. On average, coaches in the tournament collect a salary of $1.4 million. The top coaches in basketball and football, Mike Krzyzewski and Nick Saban, are each paid over $7 million a year. Both have won multiple national championships and I'd bet both could deliver championships if they were coaching lower level colleges or even high school. But would they be paid the same way? Not a chance. That's because the talent level of the players wouldn't create a level of play that's worth billions in TV revenue. Yes, the coaches, programs, schools, leagues, TV networks, broadcasters, executives and even the much maligned NCAA all play hugely valuable roles in creating great college sports leagues. But, everyone on that list is paid well - except for the players. That's unfair.

The most common argument against paying college athletes is that they are already compensated through the value of their athletic scholarships. But, for many top tier college athletes, this is a bad deal. That's because their value as an athlete is worth more than the scholarship .

The bigger issue is that the value of a scholarship, while great in theory, is illusory for many athletes because their educational experience pales in comparison to other students. Before you blame the athletes, consider the reality of big-time college sports. The time commitment rivals that of a full-time job and then some. And, seriously, how focused would you be on your classes this week if you were a 20 year old about to play in the Sweet 16?

Most importantly, too many schools prioritize eligibility and not education. Kids are admitted with different academic standards, and classes and majors are selected or even dictated to players with a focus on eligibility. Graduation rates in major sports prove the point; basketball and football athletes are less likely to graduate than their non-athlete peers.

Others make an argument that doing away with amateurism would ruin college athletics. The problem with this argument is that it's decades late. Major college sports are functioning like pro sports. College athletes may be amateurs in the strictest sense because they aren't paid to play, but they are "paid" through tuition, room and board and therefore they can and do dedicate most of their time to the practice of their sport. Often they live separately from other students and experience a life that is more like a professional athlete's, than a student's, minus the salary.
