Rajasthan Royals box office opens - IPL 6

Rajasthan Royals today announced the commencement of ticket sales for the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League. The box office at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium is open from 10 am to 7 pm every day.

All general tickets will be sold at the box offices and Provogue Retail outlets at MI Road & Gaurav Tower & Cafe Coffee Day outlets at Alankar Plaza, Country Inn, Paris Point, Shikha Hotel & Vaibhav Tower.

The tickets are priced starting at Rs.200, to ensure all cricket enthusiasts get a chance to catch the live action. Ticket prices are different for base, premium and super premium matches.

Mumbai Indians managed to score their first points of the season with a nine-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium late on Saturday night. After an early collapse, Kieron Pollard helped revive the MI innings to post a competitive 148 which the bowlers defended in fighting fashion against a resurgent CSK side.

 Chasing a modest 149, CSK lost Murali Vijay (5) as Munaf Patel struck timber in his first over. Mitchell Johnson got MI their second success sending back Suresh Raina caught by Ricky Ponting. Michael Hussey (20) lived a charmed life after being dropped when on 1 and 9, but was finally castled by Harbhajan Singh.

At the halfway stage, CSK still required 91 runs from 60 balls and were struggling to find any sort of rhythm. Pragyan Ojha struck twice dismissing Dwayne Bravo (10) and S Badrinath (16) putting CSK on the mat.

Ravindra Jadeja (16) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2) fell in the pursuit of quick runs needing a miracle from Dhoni (51). He almost did just that, hitting 15 runs of Pollard's 17th over to help his team inch closer to the target. However, needing 12 off the final over, the first delivery saw Dhoni attempting to hit one over the midwicket boundary, but Kieron Pollard leapt in the air and plucked off a stunning catch. CSK eventually fell nine runs short of the target.

Earlier in the evening, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first. The move backfired as Dirk Nannes trapped Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in the very first over. IPL debutant, Ankit Rajpoot then had Ponting (6) caught at slip attempting a pull leaving the visitors at 18 for 2 in 3.2 overs. Dinesh Karthik (37) and Rohit Sharma (8) were both given an early reprieve, but Sharma failed to capitalizs on it and fell nicking Bravo to the wicket-keeper. Bravo struck again removing Karthik leg before in his next over, leaving MI stuttering at 59 for 4.

The slide continued as Ben Laughin then had Ambati Rayudu (7) caught at third man. Dwayne Smith joined the procession as he holed out off Ashwin. Pollard (57*) was the savior for MI playing a brutal innings smashing five huge sixes. Along with Harbhajan Singh (21*), Pollard helped MI put on a decent total on the board with a late flourish. Pollard ended MI's innings with a six to finish at 148 for 6 from their 20 overs.

After Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid had built a platform, Staurt Binny came in and whipped 40 off 20 balls to take the attack to the Delhi Daredevils. While the veteran Rajasthan Royals’ captain held-up one end, the tattoo sporting youngster smashed the ball off the park to tilt the match in the visitor’s favour. He specially singled out former team-mate Johan Botha for special treatment.

Although his bat flew out of his hands after nudging the ball to the boundary, Binny followed it up with a sweep to collect a six and another over long-off. His 55-run partnership off 28 balls with Dravid, before returning to the dressing room, was one of the key factors in RR getting off to a winning start in the Pepsi IPL 2013.

While speaking to iplt20.com after the exhilarating win, Binny recollected his innings and while reflecting on the game lauded Kevon Cooper’s efforts and also talked about Rahul Dravid’s magnificent innings and Brad Hodge’s leadership as they pulled off a five-run win.

Excerpts from the interview:

You are a good hitter of the ball, but was it part of the plan for you to hit while Rahul Dravid was already anchoring the innings or were you just playing your natural game?

The plan was actually to go out and play positive cricket. It is not necessary to hit every ball for six but today I think it came off a bit the way I wanted it to go. But definitely the plan always will be to go out and play positive cricket and help my partner at the other end.

It was important to accelerate when you came in to bat and the over where both of you gleaned 19 runs off Johan Botha. Talk to us about that?

I think it is important to target a bowler in conditions like this. Especially when their left-arm spinner was bowling it was a bit difficult (to score off him). But, I had played Botha for a couple of years now so I knew the areas where he would bowl and once I got the first hit I thought I will
capitalise in that over.

With the way the match panned out and ended in a tight finish, did you feel you were a 10-15 runs short having lost four quick wickets in the last two overs for six runs?

Yes definitely. I think we were 10-12 runs short. In a close game even one run is important so I think we have to bat our full overs and try and get our batsmen to bat and not let the tail-enders bat towards the end but I think by losing three-four wickets we put pressure on ourselves again.

Rahul Dravid’s innings, your take?

Unbelievable! To come back and play cricket as good as he is right now I think everyone would love to bat like the way he is doing. In twenty20 especially when the pressure is on in the first game and the nerves are a bit high he just came out and batted superbly.

Brad Hodge’s captaincy and holding your nerves in a tight situation, tell us what was it like in the middle? What did Hodge tell the bowlers and the team?

We came here last year also and we lost a close game. Hodge is a great leader and he has captained a lot of T20 teams in the past so he knew exactly what he was doing and he saw that we back ourselves in that situation and try and be as calm as possible towards the end of the game.

He is so experienced so I guess he was the best man for the job at that time. And (Kevon) Cooper I must mention bowled and absolute brilliant over towards the end which is under the pump most of the time.

He put up a similar performance last year as well?

Yes. That’s the kind of cricket he plays - he can hit a ball, bowl, field well. He is a brilliant package to have in this format.

Good to get off to a winning start and that too against DD, a team whom you had lost in both matches last year. Your take?

It is very important to get off to a winning start. I think when we go and play against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a day’s time the momentum is with us. We are not trying to come in from behind because we are starting as winners so we can go out and play cricket freely.

Do you feel that David Warner’s wicket was probably the turning point?

Yes. We dropped him twice which is not ideal in a twenty20 match especially if he is a guy who is scoring runs. But then again the run-out (happened), he had to give us a chance somewhere and we took one chance. We dropped two but we took one which was excellent.

There were still big hitters to follow after Warner so what was the plan?

It was a bit tough. The wicket was a bit slow and especially with Cooper bowling Yorkers like that (it wasn’t easy to score runs). We had a better chance than them I guess but it was important that we finish the first four balls of the over without giving a boundary.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart has welcomed the investment which is being supported with £5.4million business finance from the Welsh Government.

The Minister met the Italian owners at the site last year to discuss the potential investment project - Seda UK is a subsidiary of the family owned Seda International Packaging Group SpA, which is headquartered in Naples and a world leader in packaging for the ice-cream and food industry The Minister said: "I am delighted to announce this latest investment is now going ahead in Wales as Seda UK was in competition with other sites in Europe for this project.

It employed 278 at the time of this grant application at its site in Hawtin Park, making a significant contribution to the local economy. The investment in new plant and machinery and the potential for an additional manufacturing unit will enable the company to meet the growing demand for its range of products.

Managing Director Lorenzo Angelucci said that Seda UK had enjoyed considerable year on year sustained growth since its relocation to Wales and this additional investment will increase its capacity.

The Keynote and Featured Speakers of IRCE 2013 have all championed a revolutionary zeitgeist in their own ways. June 5 Keynote Speaker Hiroshi Mikitani, head of Japan-based international retailing and marketing powerhouse Rakuten, brings a global perspective as he leverages his number-one position in Japanese online retailing to become a major global player in e-commerce. With operations in 10 countries across Europe, the Americas (where it acquired Buy.com) and Asia, Rakuten has catapulted itself onto the world’s e-commerce stage. Mikitani’s advocacy of selling and marketing through multiple online venues and his expansionist mindset are sure to resonate with other web entrepreneurs without borders.

June 6 Keynote Speaker Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN (listed as No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 with $1.3 billion in 2012 online sales), reveals the strategies HSN has adopted to break down the invisible barrier between TV personalities and consumers, as well as how she dismantled organizational barriers that kept separate divisions from working together. And June 6 Featured Speaker Alex Zhardanovsky highlights a big social media ROI success story for PetFlow.com, a recent start-up that has squeezed its way into a crowded market segment by getting 28% of its traffic from social media platforms.

Also on June 6, IRCE attendees will be treated to eye-opening statistics on online consumer behavior from Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Inc., a provider of online research that he co-founded in 1999. Fulgoni will be sharing his insights on the changing patterns of online consumers’ behavior, e-commerce data that comScore gleans from its base of several million consumers who allow their behavior to be monitored for research purposes. Internet Retailer is pleased to announce that the Special Guest Speaker for IRCE 2013 is Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States and chairman of The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit focused on solutions to the climate change crisis. Mr. Gore is a forward-looking thinker who played a leadership role in public policies that converted the Internet from a closed defense-research network to an open commercial one. An investor behind many new web-based technologies, the former Vice President is also on the Board of Directors at Apple and serves as a senior adviser to Google.
